If I Only Knew This Before I Started This Business
My name is Sonny Cohen, and I am a lifelong entrepreneur dreamer. In 2012, after being worn out in the work force selling clothes for 10 years, I was able to save up $60K. I had decided that it was time to be my own boss and start a men’s clothing retail store that will generate me enough income to live comfortably. I did what most would have done. I leased a store in a somewhat busy area and spent a few thousand dollars on fixing and painting it. I hired a descent salesman, purchased inventory from local and online wholesalers, set up business bank accounts, merchant accounts, ran some grand opening local advertising. I did the WHOLE 9 yards. In other words, I launched a business, and started, by my own, figuring out how to coalesce my efforts into profit.
Glitter was literally shooting out of my eye sockets as I quit my day-job and started my own business. Full of optimism and excitement, living in New York City, I was surrounded by a tribe of friends who motivated me. I finally made the bold move to entrepreneurship. I was now officially living my dream and working for myself, which meant that I was the only one in charge of my financial destiny and captain of my promising future.
I was a quick and eager learner, put up the long hours and overtime work and teaching myself everything I could about this business. On my own, I had to fall several times, in order to procure the “masters degree in life survival” every independent entrepreneur has to earn on their “journey”.
It wasn’t long before I was slowly but systematically forced off The Magic School Bus and onto the S.S. Battleship Long Haul.
To make the long story short, I slowly but surely realized that my dream was being shuttered on me. I did have business coming in, but I guess it wasn’t enough to cover my high monthly expenses. Overhead costs were very steep and bills were just piling up! Just to mention a few-Lease payments, utilities, vendors were calling demanding payments every day, my monthly personal expenses on top of it all. I wasn’t able keep up my income high enough just to cover these bills. I barely covered 50% of my monthly expenses. Every month seemed tougher than the preceding one.
RUNNING OUT OF MONEY WAS THE WORST PART OF MY JOURNEY. You won’t expect it, because you are prepared the long haul. You may have secured a business loan or sold your house (cough, cough) or like myself, have your life savings invested in that business and you have planned accordingly. At least, you thought you did.
I was a little over six months in business and realized that I just can’t afford losing any more and accumulate debts. I was forced to break the store 1 year lease, paid lawyers’ fees, sold inventory at way less than cost, and felt that my world was turning upside down. I can simply say that I failed! For this I wasn’t prepared.
And yes, I was depressed and angry at myself. My financial situation was a wreck. I lost all hope of ever starting a business again. At age of 35, I had to move to my parents’ house and have them support me for a few a months; I didn’t even have the strength to look for a job. I lost my life savings! I lost $60,000! That broke me emotionally. I was devastated.
My father who supported me both emotionally and financially, came across DryMaster Systems opportunity online and encouraged me to look into this. At that time, my confidence was floor low that I didn’t believe in anything but somehow, I was attracted to the idea that DryMaster Systems has an approved business plan and will teach me the business each step of the way with close guidance and support. What was even more attracting is that this business requires very little or NO OVERHEAD COSTS. The more I looked into it, the more I felt that this may be the answer of getting fast back on my feet. DryMaster will send me everything I need to start, give me unlimited support, all the ready-made ads, marketing and basically eliminating the burden of starting a business on my own. After what I went through, That’s a Hugh plus right there.
Finally, after doing my due diligence, I borrowed some funds from my father and signed up as a DryMaster Systems affiliate.
My friends, this is one of the best thing I ever did to myself. DryMaster Systems put me back in focus and helped me establish a very successful carpet cleaning business. At that time, the economy wasn’t at its best but In almost no time, I was able to reimburse my dad the start-up fees, and generate at least $3000-4000 a week by myself. Today, a little over 2 years in business, I have 2 technicians and myself working full-time, each one of us generating a few thousand dollars a week. This business is my baby. Now, I am much stronger financially, owning this money-generating business.
The amazing thing is that I only had to invest a very small fraction of what I’d originally invested in my previous failed business, and due to having virtually no overhead costs, I’m able to keep a large portion of my profits. This is an ideal business and I will HIGHLY recommend it for opportunity seekers who don’t want to risk their life savings to start a business or a costly franchise and don’t want to go through trial an error approach like I did.
DryMaster Systems has a great business plan with an amazing marketing strategy, support and coaching, equipment, detergents and products. They taught me the business throughout and provided me, with virtually no risk, everything I needed including my self confidence and I will cherish that for the rest of my life.
